| It's summer in the city, when the hot sun sweeps the crowds to the beaches and Grandpa into a cool chair pitched under the shade. And speaking of sweeps, how about those Cubbies! Yes we took three from the Sox (condolences to any of you with south-side affiliations) then turned around and handed it to the Rockies. My apologies for that tortured introductory segue aside, the Cubs are tearing up the base paths and their defense is downright dynamic! Could next year be this year? We'll just have to wait and see. One thing you don't have to wait for is great BBQ. A day at the Friendly Confines is one of the best parts of summer and stopping by Sheffield's for a rack of ribs or a pulled pork sandwich makes an already great day even better. We're still working out some of the kinks in the kitchen, but, in my humble opinion, we're getting there. We've got all the barbeque basics - chicken, ribs, pork and brisket - with the requisite sides: Mac' n Cheese, greens, baked beans, etc. And you can score a salad or an appetizer if that's more what you had in mind. We're open for lunch everyday at 11:30 and we keep the grill fires burning until late - midnight Sunday through Thursday and 1 in the AM on the weekends. So whether you're cravings are leaning toward a pre-game nosh or a late night bite - or anything in-between - we're here for you. Since, in a manner of speaking, we're on the subjects of baseball and lunch - everyone who's ever been to our bar knows that après-game afternoons can get a little crazy out in the old beer garden. What you might not have considered is that pre-game is decidedly less frenetic. May we suggest that your next office outing or fraternal fete kick off with a picnic at Sheffield's? We'll fill your crew with good beer and BBQ and send you off with a solid foundation to see you through the day. And if you all want to head back and join the melee after the flags are flying over the scoreboard, we'll still be here, ready and waiting. If you can't find something to do in Chicago in the summer, you're simply not trying. Just check out this link to the city's calendar of events: |
Join us at Ravens for Cocktails and Conversation everyday till 4am (5am on Saturdays)! • $3 draft special - all day/everyday. Beer Garden is now open. Hope to see you soon! |
July, the solid, sweating center of the summer. July, as everyone knows, kicks off with a bang, on that first holiday weekend when every young man's thoughts turn to firecrackers and bottle rockets. What with the city taking a dim view of pyrotechnics in general, we're eschewing gunpowder and instead we'll create fireworks with our celebrated Bomb Pop martini, just 5 bucks July 3rd and 4th. Display your patriotic spirits by sipping a chilled glass full of ours. July is named after Julius Caesar who was born in that month. Caesar fared better in summer than spring; there are the ides of July but it was those of March that Caesar was to find problematic. July's the time to hunker down over the BBQ pit with a frosty beverage in one hand and a spatula in the other, and what better to char over the charcoal than that most American of inventions - the hotdog! Yes July is host to such esteemed commemorations as Respect Canada Day (15th), Chess Day (20th) and, of course, Accountant's Day (28th) but those can't compare to the most venerable of honorifics, National Hot Dog Day, July 12th. At the Silver Cloud we'll tip our toques to that grand family of encased meats with International élan, serving up Italian Sausage with grilled peppers and onions all day long. After all that banging and popping on the 4th, it will be time for something simply smashing - the debut of Chicago's own Smashing Pumpkins new release, Zeitgeist. For those of you who are a tad behind on your Funk and Wagnall's, zeitgeist is defined as the spirit of the times, referring specifically to the moral and intellectual climate that prevails. With the current administration clearly lacking anything resembling morals or intellect, we've got a hunch that the Pumpkin's Zeitgeist will showcase something significant Billy and the crew wish to say. Find out for yourself July 10th and maybe even take home a free CD. Even if you don't score a disc, we'll have beer specials that are sure to hit the right note. And speaking of specials, in July the Silver Cloud's calendar is just chock full of them: Sunday - $2 off Big Bottle Beers, Monday $3 Miller High Lifes, Tuesday $2 Sloppy Joes, Wednesday $5 Wabansia Summer Coolers and last, but far from least, Thursday we feature $6 Frozen Cherry Effen Summer Coolers. Friday and Saturday you'll just have to fend for yourselves.
So that's it for July. Summer in Chicago is one of the best times of the year, but any times a great time to stop by the Cloud. |
