| What says summer better than BBQ? Nothing that we can think of. At Sheffield’s we’ve settled in with our new kitchen and our smokers are churning out the most succulent pork this side of Memphis. What is that you say, you were sleeping through the last couple months and didn’t realize that Sheffield’s is now in the barbeque business? Well, you got some catching up to do. Stop on by and grab a table under the cottonwood tree and dig in. We’ve got ribs and chicken, pulled pork and sausage and our brisket simply must be tried to be believed. Really. But don’t take our word for it, come on out and see for yourself. You can check out the menu at www.sheffieldschicago.com, but make sure you sit back from the computer so you don’t drool all over the keyboard. Of course, summer in Chicago means street fairs and Sheffield’s is proud to play a part in one of the season’s inaugural events. The Belmont Sheffield Music Fest kicks off this weekend, June 2nd and 3rd, and the main stage is just a few yards outside of our front door. Among many others, Chicago favorites Mike and Joe will take the stage Saturday with headliner Josh Kelly holding down Saturday night. Sunday’s anchored by the band Carbon Leaf, and if you don’t think you know them, check out their myspace page, www.myspace.com/carbonleaf. Their hit single, A Life Less Ordinary, has gotten a lot of airplay on WXRT and the like. Still not sure? Trust us, you’ll know them when you hear them. Out on the street, Sheffield’s will be holding a pig roast and dishing up smoked brats and sauerkraut, inside our own friendly confines we’ll be serving our full menu throughout the bar. Great food, cold beer, good music – that’s what summer in Chicago is all about. Naturally, the addition of a kitchen makes our catering and party planning operations just that much better. Now your soiree can include a little southern flair. After Cubs games is a popular time for parties, but things tend to get a little crazy around here during those hours. If you’re looking to host a more intimate affair, plan your fete pre-game. You can have the place pretty much to yourselves, fill the crew up with a slab of ribs or a pulled pork sandwich and lay a good foundation for your day of baseball and beer. Check out our website, then call Mike D @ 773-919-6212 and get your party going. Since 1980 we’ve
been serving up some of the best beer available in Chicago, now we’ve
got some of Chicago’s best BBQ to go with it. Beer, BBQ and baseball
season; the only thing better would be for the Cubbies to actually pull
together a winning season. |
Join us at Ravens for Cocktails and Conversation everyday till 4am (5am on Saturdays)! • $3 draft special - all day/everyday. Beer Garden is now open - weather permitting. Hope to see you soon! |
The American actor and sportswriter Al Bernstein once wrote that “Spring being a hard act to follow, God created June.” Which sums it up for Chicago pretty nicely. Yes, it’s June, the month of the Summer solstice, proud sponsor of the longest day of the year, and Chicago summer’s being as fleeting as they are we need every hour of daylight we can get. In June winter’s an icy memory and autumn’s chill is still too far off to cause serious concern; it’s time to dust off the grill, pull the golf clubs out of the closet and get outdoors. Of course, the Silver Cloud’s spacious sidewalk café is the perfect pit stop before and after every extracurricular excursion. Sit in the shade and sip one of our daily specials, like $2 off big bottle beer Sundays, or our Thursday $6 Effen pints. June is the sixth month of the Gregorian calendar, which employs the familiar B.C. and Anno Domini cleft as the benchmark division for the years before and after the birth of Christ. Seems that the Christian reference is a tad too overtly religious for some folks, so instead of A.D., the alternative, C.E. or Common Era has long been an accepted alternative, especially in certain academic circles. Now, the casual Latin translation of Common Era is Era Vulgaris, all of which is a long winded way of getting around to the fact that the new Queens of the Stone Age album is also titled Era Vulgaris, a name selected simply because founding band member Josh Homme thought that the phrase sounded like the “Vulgar Era”, which, if you’ve ever seen those shots of Britney Spears getting out of that limo sans undies, seems pretty apropos. We’ll be celebrating the albums release at the Cloud on June 12th, playing cuts, giving away CD’s, and featuring $3.50 pints of Great Lakes, plus $2 cans of whatever we dredge up from the dregs of the coolers. Two days later it’s time to let show your colors and celebrate the Red, White and Blue. The 14th is Flag Day and we’ll have Bomb Pop martini’s for just five bucks and some lucky folks will get their very own stars and stripes to take home and run up the flag pole. Now that’s enough to make you stand up and salute. Of course Sunday the 17th is dad’s day, and, coincidently the final day of the U.S. Open golf championship. Wait a minute, a golf tournament final on Father’s Day? Maybe not such a coincidence after all. At any rate, we’ll have our celebrated John Daly Summer Coolers for $5 all day long, the purchase of which gets Dad a free set of Silver Cloud tees and ball markers, and if Pop picks the winner of the tourney, he gets entered into a raffle for a pair of Cubs tickets. What a deal for dad! But, naturally, at the Silver Cloud, specials like these are just par for the course. It’s
summer in Chicago, time to celebrate everything that makes this a great
place to play in the great outdoors. Get out of the house and let the
team at the Silver Cloud take over the kitchen chores. That’s why
we’re here. |
