| This month’s missive kicks off with a eulogy; Michael Jackson – the beer guy, not the plastic surgery obsessed one - has departed these mortal environs to determine, once and for all, if in heaven there really is no beer. Mr. Jackson, the author of the definitive The World Guide to Beer and host of the popular television series The Beer Hunter, died in his home August 30th. Mr. Jackson hosted several tastings here at Sheffield’s over the years and copies of his work are housed on the shelves behind the bar, where they remain a valuable reference for the Sheffield’s team and our customers as well. We’d like to thank Michael Jackson for helping us all understand the world of beer with greater perspective and a richer regard for those many styles and techniques which comprise the brewer’s art. Prost, Michael! Now one thing that goes together like peas and carrots, or Donald Trump and bad hair is a night out for dinner and a show. At Sheffield’s we can cover both those bases all under our one multi-faceted roof. Get here early and settle in for some of Chicago’s best southern style BBQ then check out our lineup of engaging entertainments. Thursday nights, beginning November 8th, will see the return of our open mic series which kicks off at 9 PM; check our web-site for more details. Also kicking off in November albeit, one would assume, a tad more awkwardly, is the improv group, Three-legged Race. They’ll be in the Garden View room Wednesday nights, excepting, of course, the first Wednesday of each month when Columbia College’s Reading Under the Influence hosts their raucous rounds of readings by authors both budding and more widely established. Find out more by clicking through to their website; R.U.I. The end of the month Thanksgiving rolls back around, kicking off the holiday season. Sheffield’s Backroom BBQ will offer our spin on the traditional Turkey-Day fare with a three course dinner special, running all of Thanksgiving week. A cup of squash-pumpkin soup, followed by an entrée of Apple and Oak slow-smoked turkey breast with mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens, finishing off with a savory bread pudding, all for just $12.95. It’s a holiday feast sure to make you wish every week of the year was Thanksgiving week. And after the dishes are finally all washed and stacked back in the cupboard, it’s time to think about holiday parties. Sheffield’s has some select dates still available, so check out our site (www.sheffieldschicago.com) and then give us a call @ 773-281-1350 to book your seasonal soiree. There’s a cheery
fire in the fireplace, we’ve got great new beers on tap and our
kitchen is plating up BBQ tasty enough to make you forget that winter’s
on the way. At Sheffield’s there’s always a reason to give
thanks. |

Peanut butter’s been taking a bad rap lately; many are the school cafeterias who now treat the gooey spread like a high level toxic substance. There are anecdotal accounts of children toting a suspect sandwich to class in the requisite brown paper bag and finding themselves subjected to criminal prosecution. Luckily for the old legume and its many fans, National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month is there to assuage your indignation. At the Silver Cloud, we’re unrepentant fans of nuts; observe our customers. And so it is with great pride we offer two specials that celebrate the essence of all things peanut buttery; every weekend in November we will be offering the Elvis Tower of Power for brunch - French Toast with peanut butter, bananas and smothered with Hershey’s chocolate syrup. You can follow it up with the Fluffer-Nutter - white toast with peanut butter and, once again, a good dollop of chocolate sauce. George Washington Carver, we salute you. And another salute goes out to - Well to us. Actually that would make it more of a pat on the back. For thirteen years we’ve been here at the corner of Damen and Wabansia, serving up comfort food favorites. November 8th, we’re going to celebrate that fact. Stop by from six to eight for drinks, goodies and complimentary bites that revisit our earliest menus; remember the fried bologna, anyone? Tuesday
the 20th we will be celebrating the new album release from Daft Punk titled
"Daft Punk Alive 2007". Perhaps not the most creative of titles,
but we’ll be serving $3.50 Goose Island 312 bottles and holding
CD giveaways all night long, so what’s that really matter? But don’t wait on these festive revels to drop by the Cloud, around here, everyday’s a reason to celebrate: Monday - 25 cent wings and $3 Labatts Blue cans, Tuesday $2 sloppy joes and $2 cans, Wednesday the PB&J (more peanut butter) - a bottle of PBR and a shot of Jameson for $6, Thursday $5 well pints… the list goes on and on. Peanut
butter, PBR or Parties; at the Silver Cloud we’ve got all the bases
covered. |
