| On June 28, 1894, then President Grover Cleveland signed a bill recognizing the first Monday in September as Labor Day. Cleveland, a notoriously anti-labor president, was trying to buy back a little public good will after calling in the National Guard to quell the riots of the Chicago Pullman Factory strikes earlier that year. The holiday, which had been gaining momentum for a while, caught on. Cleveland lost his next election. And Labor Day goes down in history as that storied holiday in which Americans from coast to coast celebrate the last cookout of the beach season. Yes, for a lot of people, this weekend is one big party, and who doesn’t love a party? The people who have to clean up the next morning, that’s who. That’s where Sheffield’s comes in. We cater parties, big and small. For details, check out our web-site www.sheffieldschicago.com, and click on the party packages tab. Of course, we host parties right here, complete with our storied beer selections and fantastic BBQ menu; but a Sheffield’s party doesn’t have to confine itself to the inside of our four walls. With a phone call and a little planning, you can bring Sheffield’s home. We offer our entire
menu for carryout, so if you just want to swing on by and grab your holiday
meal that works for us. Or if you’d like us to get busy and set
things up, dish it out and cart it all away, we can do that too. How about
a bartender for your soiree if you want to get fancy? Tablecloths and
glassware? No problem. About the only thing we can’t do is get your
guests to show up or show up on time. For football fans, every autumn weekend is a party, from the college gridiron grudge match to Da’ Bears. Take the toil out of tailgating and put some Sheffield’s BBQ on the field for your front line. There’s more to look forward to in September, of course. Saturday the 22nd, the Cubs play Pittsburg and the Polkaholics will play our beer garden, in their fourth annual Oktoberfest Celebration Spectacular. Right now the Cubs are leading their division; here’s hoping that will still be the case when the Brats hit the grill and Don and the boys don their lederhosen. Parties, Polka and
Football, there’s a lot of reasons to love September, and lot’s
of reasons to let Sheffield’s do the heavy lifting for all your
celebrations, large and small. We’re open for lunch everyday at
11:30, if you’d like to drop by and sample our menu in the interests
of research. Or bring a box back to the office and make yourself employee
of the week. |
Join us at Ravens for Cocktails and Conversation everyday till 4am (5am on Saturdays)! • $3 draft special - all day/everyday. Beer Garden is now open - weather permitting. Hope to see you soon! |
Sure, for you it’s Labor Day Weekend, for us, it’s one long brunch. Yes, we’ll be serving our fabulous weekend brunch an extra day, Monday from 10:30 until 4. And we don’t stop there, we’re dishing up dinner right on schedule, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday. September’s the beginning of fall, and as much as we hate to see the summer go, there’s nothing better than crisp autumn afternoons watching football. Kick your football afternoons up a notch at the Cloud, where our plethora of plasma screens will be host to the Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket. Now we know we can’t please everyone, so, although we’ll broadcast as many games as possible, the one we choose to crank up the volume is up to you. In the interests of fairness, mob control and democratic rule - the mob with the biggest presence rules. Every Sunday we’ll take a poll to determine which team has the majority support and that’s the team that will hear and see their team. The moral here is - it’s all up to you. If you want to hear your favorite announcers call the play-by-play, show up with the biggest crowd. It’s the American way. And nothing’s as American as shopping
for a deal. At the Silver Cloud, we bring the deals to you. Our Daily
Specials will give you something to cheer about after Sunday’s come
and gone- Monday - 25 cent wings and $3 Labatts Blue Cans, Tuesday - $2
Sloppy Joes and $2 Cans of Schlitz and Strohs. Hump-days we feature PB&J
(Bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a shot of Jameson for $6). And we round
the week out on Thursday with $5 Well Pints. This September kicks off with the Cubs in
first place in the National League Central and the Bears coming off a
Super Bowl year. Is next year, this year? Only time will tell, but year
after year the winning team is here at the Silver Cloud. |
